The University alumni association is hoping students will compete for the chance to write the first fight song for the University since its inception in 1979.

Students and alumni can fill out the entry form with their song lyrics at www.pastpatriots.com. Submission deadline is Aug. 1.

A selection committee will choose the winning song by Aug.5.

The fight song must be eight to 16 lines long, have a regular meter and include five to 10 of the following words: Fight, Patriots, Pride/Proud, Loyalty, Glory, Victory, Navy and Orange, Win, Spirit, UT Tyler, Praise, Fame, Eagles Soar/Soaring, Cheer, Riter Tower, Harvey Lake, East Texas.
