The Palestine campus construction project received an additional $319,515 this summer as part of a commitment of almost two million dollars from the Texas Area Fund Foundation for campus expansion.
The current campus uses an old textile factory on Loop 256 in Palestine with about 50 students from the Palestine area.

The new building is set for completion in 2010, just 15 years after the first campus opened.
“We are extremely grateful to the Palestine community for its generous commitment to UT Tyler and higher education,” President Rodney Mabry said.

The UT Tyler Palestine Campus Development Council announced the public phase of the expansion campaign in Sept. 2007 after receiving advance contributions. The development council is working with Texas the Area Fund Foundation to collect the gifts.

The Project will cost $9.6 million — $7 million of which is budgeted to come from tuition revenue earmarked by the Texas Legislature in 2006.

Architects Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek of Austin developed plans for the new building expected to begin construction later this year.
